The ruckus caused in Kolkata over the past few days could cost some IPS officers big time as they might get stripped of their medals and could also be removed from the seniority list. All thanks to them supporting the controversial ‘Dharna’, staged by West Bengal’s CM Mamata Banerjee, a few days back.
Six officers have been identified by the ministry, and a similar action is also being sought against Kolkata police chief, Rajeev Kumar who took the Central government lightly in the whole drama that unfolded. The quantum of the action will include withdrawing of medals and decorations that have been conferred on the officers for meritorious services, removal of names from seniority list, and also banning them for a certain period of time from serving in the central government. This comes as a huge blow, not only to these officers but also to Mamata Banerjee, who’s always tried to take the easy way out by playing the victim card and using her forces in a negative way. This could also cost West Bengal its reputation as a democratic state, which might go against Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming elections.
